The BIRD-Lasers4Life team is very glad to welcome the University Hospital Regensburg as a new study site for the Lasers4Life medical device study. Together with the local clinical study team in Regensburg the new study center was just initiated.

In the Lasers4Life study, we are looking at Infrared Molecular Fingerprinting – an approach and technology to analyze molecular patterns in blood samples. The goal is to find out whether such blood-based patterns could in future help capture lung cancer earlier.

The new study center is led by Prof. Dr. Christian Schulz from the University Hospital Regensburg and the focus is on lung cancer detection. The site will include patients with therapy-naïve lung cancer, as well as control participants with non-cancerous lung diseases.

For participants, taking part involves only a small additional step, but one that can make a substantial contribution to scientific research. After giving written consent, a blood sample is drawn during a routine examination and participants fill out a short questionnaire. All samples get pseudonymized, stored as frozen, and later analyzed at LMU Munich.

The start of the new study center was made possible through funding from the Bavarian Cancer Research Center (BZKF). The BIRD-Lasers4Life team is very much looking forward to working with the Regensburg team and to seeing the study network continue to grow.
