After successfully completing his master’s thesis, Niklas Leopold-Kerschbaumer has decided to continue his academic journey in the Data Science Research Group as a PhD student within the framework of the John von Neumann Institute.
Originally from Vorarlberg, Austria, Niklas completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physics at LMU Munich, where he focused on applications of machine learning. For his master’s thesis, he researched statistical simulations and generative deep-learning methods for analyzing blood-based infrared spectra under the supervision of Dr. Kosmas Kepesidis.
As a PhD student, Niklas will work on developing and applying advanced AI techniques to analyze complex, multi-modal molecular data from the proHEALTH study. His research will also focus on identifying medically relevant latent variables from molecular data across multiple modalities and designing an optimal policy for cost-effectively utilization.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Niklas enjoys playing chess and video games. We look forward to his contributions to the Data Science Research Group and wish him success in his PhD studies.
