Johannes Thurner has successfully defended his thesis titled “Laser-Compression of Electron Pulses – Quantum-Coherent Shaping of Free-Electron Wavepackets at the Attosecond Frontier”.
In his dissertation, Johannes achieved the generation of an infinite train of electron pulses inside a transmission electron microscope (TEM), which were shorter than the wave cycles of the compressing infrared laser. In addition, he leveraged ponderomotive compression in free space to obtain multi kilo-electron-volt spectral broadening and to compress electron pulses into trains of individual pulses with few-attosecond duration.
Congratulations!
