Chromatography meets Field-Resolved Infrared Spectroscopy: The Cytiva PRIME Summit, held in Munich from October 26 to 29, 2026, brought together researchers and industry experts around chromatography, protein purification and bioprocessing. Katharina Dietmann was an invited speaker, presenting the BIRD team’s research on coupling liquid chromatography with Field-Resolved Infrared Spectroscopy for molecular profiling of human blood plasma.

Highly abundant proteins dominate the Infrared Molecular Fingerprint of blood plasma and can mask low-abundance molecules that may be relevant to disease. By fractionating plasma proteins before infrared detection, the team aims to make the low-abundant molecules visible. First proof-of-principle experiments with Field-Resolved Infrared Spectroscopy have already been carried out, pointing to the sensitivity this approach could offer for complex biological samples.

We thank Cytiva for the invitation and for the opportunity to bring Infrared Molecular Fingerprinting to the chromatography community!
