We are delighted to welcome Moritz Jung to the Data Science Research Group, led by Dr. Kosmas Kepesidis. Moritz joined us on March 1, 2025, as a PhD candidate in the framework of the John von Neumann Institute for Data Science, a collaboration initiative between the Center for Molecular Fingerprinting and Semmelweis University.

His research will focus on developing a so-called Trusted Research Environment for hosting large-scale clinical studies and implementing deep-learning methods to analyze multi-modal molecular data.

Moritz holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Regensburg and a master’s degree in biomedical computing from the Technical University of Munich. His academic journey has given him expertise in machine learning and medical image processing. Reflecting on his experience, he shares:

“During my studies, I gained hands-on experience with machine learning, particularly in developing deep learning algorithms for automating clinical image processing. My master’s thesis focused on automatic landmark detection in cardiac CT scans. Over the past three years, I’ve further expanded my expertise at a Munich-based startup, where I implemented an automated data pipeline for segmenting cardiac structures from medical images.”

In his spare time, Moritz is passionate about all kinds of sports, especially volleyball, running, and triathlon. He also uses his expertise in data science to analyze sports data, to help him and his team achieve optimal results.

We wish Moritz a great start!
